Dubai Metro tickets must be purchased in the form of a Nol card. No other payment form is possible for the Metro. A Nol card is like a credit card that holds either a balance or a specific season ticket for travelling on a lot of the public transport in Dubai, including the Metro, buses, and the tram.

There are various types of Nol cards, so see the Nol cards section for which type of card you should select. If you wish to purchase a ticket for the Dubai Metro, you can purchase Nol cards from all the metro stations, as well as from any other public transport stations and customer service centers.

Dubai Metro Tickets

Payments With Cash are not accepted

You are not able to pay with cash or a credit card to travel on the Dubai Metro, and you have to purchase a Nol card. But you will be able to add cash or a credit card to your NOL card at every station.

The fares for travel on the Dubai Metro, tram, and buses are as follows:

Ticket Type 1 Zone or <3km 2 zones 2 Zones 3+ Zones
Standard Adult Ticket (Red) 4 dirhams 6 dirhams 8.50 dirhams
Pre-paid Standard Adult Ticket (Silver Nol) 3 dirhams 5 dirhams 7.50 dirhams
Concessionary (Blue NOL Card) 1.50 dirhams 2.50 dirhams 3.75 dirhams
Gold Class (Red Ticket) 8 dirhams 12 dirhams 17 dirhams
Gold Class Pre-Paid 6 dirhams 10 dirhams 15 dirhams

You can calculate how many zones you will pass through by looking at the Metro Map. Prices are based on the number of zones and do not consider the zone numbers themselves.

Normal tickets are those bought by buying a red Nol card, so they are most likely to be those charged to visitors or tourists. Prepaid means you have bought a Silver, Blue, or Gold Nol card.

Concessionary NOL cards are issued to students, the disabled, and the elderly on registration and application. Blue Nol cards carry the normal benefits with the addition of buying season tickets.

One Day Pass of Metro

You must calculate how much travelling you do in a single day so as to determine whether a one-day pass would suit you better. The one-day pass also caters to transport on the Dubai Tram as well as on Dubai buses.

If you do not buy a one-day ticket, you can still be charged over 20 dirhams if you take many trips, because travel is not limited to 20 dirhams unless you purchase the one-day ticket. You can learn more information about the one-day pass here.

The above tickets are only available for purchase on specific NOL cards:

You can obtain the one-day card on a red ticket. You can obtain the weekly ticket on a Blue, Silver, or Gold Nol card.

The travel date and not in advance, and it is only valid until midnight on the purchase day.

The remaining season tickets can only be purchased with a Blue Nol Card or a registered Silver or Gold Nol Card. The blue cards need an application form and a photo with ID.

Thus, if you are travelling to Dubai as a visitor, your only options for a season ticket are the day or weekly passes.
